Background

      Ms. Furrer is a native Arkansan who has lived and worked in both Pulaski and Saline Counties all of her adult life.  She is uniquely qualified and well suited to represent the people of District 31 based on her 32 years of public service as a teacher, social worker, state administrator and legislative analyst / constituent advisor.   Ms. Furrer, age 67, retired in 2008 after working 22 years for the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Divisions of Youth Services, Children and Family Services and Developmental Disabilities in various direct service and administrative positions and 10 years as a legislative analyst/constituent advisor for the Arkansas Senate, Office of Constituency Services.

       Ms. Furrer earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from UALR and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from UALR, Graduate School of Social Work.  She did her student teaching at Bryant High School and taught America History and Civics at the Youth Service Center at Alexander, Arkansas.   Ms. Furrer, who holds a Lifetime Teacher Certificate from the Arkansas Department of Education, understands the importance of education and knows how hard teachers must work to make a difference in the lives of students. 

HOME AND COMMUNITY

Ms. Furrer is:

  • a member of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP),

  • an active member and deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church,

  • a member and certified teacher with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society of Edinburgh, Scotland,

  • a founding member and volunteer teacher with the Arkansas Scottish Country Dance Society, a not-for-profit organization established in 1985 and dedicated to preserving Scottish music and dance for the benefit of present and future generations,

  • an Artist- in-Education for the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism, Arts Council,

  • a member and community volunteer with the Pulaski County Master Gardener Program through the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension (2007-present);

  • an avid gardener who gardens at Pulaski County Community Garden located at Two Rivers Park,

  • a member and volunteer instructor at the Little Rock Dog Training Club, and

  • married to Larry Furrer (since 1974).
